Goose Effigy Bottle This pot is an original design effigy bottle in the style of the Mississippian period.  The Mississippian period was from around 1000-1400 AD.

This pot is made from native clay and traditionally fired in a wood fire which was smothered.  This firing created lovely fire clouds on most of the the pieces from the wood fire.  This pot has variations from near black to rich brown.

During the Mississippian period a large number of naturalistic or ‘real world’ effigies were made.   Classic Southeastern Cultural Complex art was believed to relate almost entirely to otherworldly events and supernatural actors, however, the art from the central Mississippi valley also includes a large variety of ‘real world’ beings such as fish, deer. Shells, gourds, and other animals.  These were depicted with a varying degree of realism.

Size: 14 inches tall 5 inches wide at the widest point.
